This story plot comes from the story written by Anna Leonowens, who became school teacher to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s. This movie is a bit like an autobiography but it is illegal, because of the historical inaccuracies about the King of Siam. Then soon it became a movie.
This movie have to be remake 5 times because some part have a bad description about the King of Thailand and the Thai people don’t like that images to tell the people that the King is like this. So I will just tell the original one. This director is John Van Druten, he is famous from this movie. Choreographed by Jerome Robbins, scenic and light design by Jo Mielziner, and costumes designed by Irene Sharaff. There are a lot of camera work and light during the part that the King held a royal party and the camera were like on the ceiling and you can see how bright the light from the ceiling was.
This film won an oscar as the best music. They have their own original sound track and they use the whole orchestra to play the songs in the movie. Every scene have their own music and every music is very wonderful. It make this film won so many osca for best music, acting, etc.
This film was first released in 1951 and when the Thai people watch it, most Thai were shocked by the portrayal of their revered nineteenth-century king (King Mongkut) in the musical The king and I. The stage and screen versions were based on Margaret Landon’s 1944 book entitled Anna and the King of Siam. To correct the record, well-known Thai intellectuals Seni and Kukrit Pramoj wrote this account in 1948. The Pramoj brothers send their manuscript to the American politician and diplomat, who drew on it for this biography entitled Mongkut the King of Siam (1961) Moffat donated the Pramoj manuscript in the Library in 1961. What were some of the badd things that the movie showed about this King? I am also interested in how many changes were added to each remake of the film. It would be nice to hear more details about the characterization of the King.
They have to remake it so many times because the history in this movie is wrong. Like in the part that said that the prince like the servant, which in the history is not true and because Thai people really love and respected the King. They won't let the things that is no true out. Which this story in the movie could make the other people see the royal family in a bad way.
